Right now is a very uncertain time, especially with conflicting media sources and constant negative news coming from the TV. It can be hard to stay positive and keep your hopes up when all you hear are the negatives, so here are a few important realities and some good news regarding COVID-19.

California has officially been called to stay home

Here is a complete list of cities and states that have been called by mayors and governors to stay home. California’s stay at home order can be concerning, but it does not mean that you are not allowed to leave your house. This order mostly means that all non-essential businesses have closed, and residents of California are encouraged to stay home rather than go out to eat, see friends, or work. Most non-essential workers have been called to work from home as well. It is suggested that all California residents remain inside of their homes and leave only to restock groceries, pick up medication, care for minors and transport children as ordered by custody agreements.

Social Distancing is Necessary to Flatten the Curve

While social distancing may be difficult for many, it is highly necessary to “flatten the curve” or prevent the spread of Coronavirus. Here is a link to an infographic that really helps with understanding how staying home will stop the spread of the virus. Flattening the curve and staying home even if you are not sick will help the pandemic come to an end sooner and help get our lives back to normal.

Gov. Newsom Issued an Executive Order to Protect Renters and Homeowners

During this time, many employees have lost their jobs as businesses closed down, but the governor of California has issued an order to try and protect renters and homeowners from eviction during the pandemic. The order allows local governments to halt evictions for renters and homeowners, slows foreclosures, and protects against utility shutoffs for Californians affected by COVID-19.

Healthy Children are Less Affected by COVID-19

This is great news for worried parents of children with no preexisting conditions. According to the CDC, the majority of infections have occurred in adults and children who are infected with the virus come down with much milder symptoms. While the virus can and has infected small numbers of children, the younger population is not as vulnerable as it would be in most cases of a virus spread.

Now may be a time of uncertainty and fear, but it is important to detach yourself from the news occasionally. The constant flood of Coronavirus news can be very overwhelming and make the situation seem more dire than it truly is. While not all Coronavirus news is bad news, it is still a critical time and actions, like staying home and avoiding contact with those outside of your immediate circle, are crucial.
