If you are a Resource Parent, whether it be your first time or your 17th time bringing a child into your life, we want to make sure you know how grateful we are, and we want to emphasize that you have a whole community behind you. It’s okay to feel alone, and it’s okay to feel lost; but you are never either of those things.
It is true when they say it takes a village to raise a child. It is the task of many, each individual playing one small part in forming a child’s future. We are that village! Our team—our community—of individuals are always more than ready to help in any way you need.
We see what you are doing, and we hope you understand that you are a part of something bigger. Your journey as a Resource Parent is more than just that; you have changed your foster child forever. They will always remember and cherish the warm heart and warm home they were lucky enough to find in you.
It can be hard. Honestly, it probably will be hard. Remember how resilient and patient you are. Remember what your child may have gone through. Be their safe space. Be their temporary home until they can go back to their forever home, or until it is decided that their forever home is in your arms.
You are a Resource Parent! Hear you roar! Your village of social workers and those with arms ready to help you are standing behind you. Don’t be afraid, try not to get overwhelmed! Remember the incredible act of kindness you are displaying, and know that you are making a difference in a small human’s world.
